Located at the mouth of the Maumee River on western Lake Erie, Toledo offers the benefits of living in a large cosmopolitan city, while maintaining a small-town charm. The Toledo region is home to a diverse mixture of corporations and manufacturers, including firms in the health care, refining, food processing, building materials, glass and automotive industries. There are plenty of year-round recreational and sporting activities in Northwest Ohio, including an extensive Metropark system, a world-renowned museum of art, and a nationally recognized zoo and symphony orchestra. The Toledo region supports two minor league sports teams, the Walleye hockey team and the Mud Hens baseball team. A new stadium was built downtown for the Mud Hens in 2002 and a new arena will be opening downtown for the Walleye in 2010.
