Electrical Power Engineering
Orbital’s Electrical Power Engineering staff combine the latest power technology with their extensive knowledge in engineering and design services of low, medium and high voltage power systems to provide appropriate cost-effective solutions to our customers’ electrical power needs. Our experience includes many thousands of projects involving both electrical power upgrades (retrofits) at existing industrial facilities and new power systems for greenfield sites.
Our In-Plant expertise includes the design of: new substations; upgrades to existing substations; switchgear and other electrical equipment layout and specification; motor control centers; power distribution; lighting; grounding; and heat tracing.
We also perform specialized power engineering services such as load flow and short circuit studies, arc flash studies, hazard area classification and energy management consulting.
Orbital works with its customers during Energy Management Studies to identify opportunities to reduce power consumption, and we evaluate every project for opportunities to employ energy-efficient technologies to reduce operating costs and comply with green energy programs. These energy reduction studies may involve: load shedding programming; control system redesign; identification and correction of electrical deficiencies such as excessive thermal loads, over or under-sized equipment, or excessive voltage drops; and lighting audits and lighting efficiency improvement recommendations.
Orbital’s Inspection and Asset Integrity groups utilize advanced technologies, including Drone based Infrared Imaging, to acquire field data to support the Energy Management efforts.
