Pig Caster Facility Design
Pig Caster Facility Design
A new pig caster facility capable of processing 1 million + tons/yr. of iron was designed for automated production of blast furnace pigs. This allows continued blast furnace operation during operating reductions at the steel shop. The new facility was designed for torpedo car delivery of blast furnace hot metal to dual desulfurization stations after dekish/deskull. Dual pig caster conveyors deliver water cooled pigs to a collection area for mag crane transfer to RR cars. Extensive dust and steam collection systems are required for the pouring and cooling operations. The process was designed to be housed in an existing mill building that has RR and utility service.
